Substance abuse treatment ranch's residential program

Intern / Apprentice / Mentor

  • Intern: Upon arriving at Mountain Valley Recovery this is the entry level. As an Intern you will strive to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to advance, not only here at MVR but also learn how to deal with life on lifes terms.

  • Apprentice: Once a young man has demonstrated a willingness to change. A humble and teachable demeanor. Progressed in his 12 step study. Achieved his goals set with Thurmon and Kellie. Abided by all rules established here at the ranch and when applicable corrected any behavior contrary to the fact. He will be entrusted with the advancement to Apprentice. As an Apprentice he is responsible for the progression of those young men coming along after him.

  • Mentor: As a Mentor our young men have proven themselves trustworthy, honest, capable and selfless. The program is no longer about them but rather what can they do for others. At this level the young man will be entrusted with a cell phone and electronic devices once again. He will still be surrounded by a loving and safe environment as he reintegrates himself back into society.

  • Weekly step group meetings as the men work the steps together. It is required the young men work steps 1 - 4 before being advanced to Apprentice.
  • Attend two AA meetings a week in surrounding Fillmore and Delta.
  • Monthly guest speakers with varying years of sobriety and experience related to addiction recovery.
  • Daily morning devotionals where we read as a group from various selections of literature.
  • As we learn in AA being self centered is detrimental to our well-being and that only through service are we truly forgetting ourselves. To help put this into action we engage in bi-weekly Saturday service projects in the local community.

Group and Individual Therapy

  • One group session and one Individual session weekly with Thurmon.
  • Nightly group sessions where we explore the different ideologies of self mastery that aid the guys in their recovery.

Health and Wellness

In the movie, Pleasure Unwoven, Doctor Kevin McCauley discusses the effects of drug and alcohol abuse as it pertains to the brain. According to Doctor McCauley and in our experience as a substance abuse treatment ranch, as well, it takes a young man 4 to 6 months to truly display a drug free mind set and physical ability. It takes this time for the body to cleanse itself of the chemicals our young men have been ingesting on a daily basis. Once the body is free and clear of the substances, THEN the healing path to recovery can begin.

By teaching our young men proper nutrition and proper techniques for physical activities we hope to instill good habits that will fuel the body as it repairs itself. Our young men are literally becoming completely different individuals both mentally and physically.
